Israel Kills
Forth: Israel’s Violations in the Gaza
Strip
Immediately after the Israeli military
authorities occupied the Gaza Strip on June 5,
1967, they pursued a repressive policy against
Palestinians. The lives of civilians were subjected to
the ruling military, which stopped, imprisoned and
exiled anybody without a charge or a trial.
Palestinians, as a result, became vulnerable
to home demolition, land confiscation, displacement,
and looting and burning of crops, without being able
to prevent such violations.
The collective punishment, imposed on the
entire villages, families, and refugee camps, and the
arbitrary economic sanctions, were features of the
Israeli occupation policies to decrease the public
sympathy with Palestinian resistance. Israel made
its strategy on the assumption that wide suppression
can eliminate Palestinian opposition to the
occupation, making supporting resistance limited to
a small number of people.
Ironically, the actual year of first uprising
(Intifada) in 1987, was the same year in which
the world celebrated the 40th anniversary of the
Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).
In this year, Israel blatantly violated human rights,
in which Palestinians suffered in their occupied
homeland from all kinds of repressive practices that
negatively affected their property and freedoms.
